Client Background

A group of specialty subcontractors supporting hyperscale and enterprise data center construction projects across the United States engaged Advastar to help address workforce challenges during peak construction activity. These subcontractors were responsible for delivering key scopes of work across electrical, mechanical, piping, HVAC, civil, structural, and instrumentation and controls systems, all within highly coordinated and schedule-driven project environments.

The Challenge

The subcontractors faced ongoing difficulty securing qualified skilled trades and field leadership in a tight labor market. Data center construction requires a high level of precision, safety compliance, and technical capability, and not all available labor met these standards. At the same time, project schedules required rapid mobilization of crews, and any delays in staffing could impact downstream activities across multiple trades. The subcontractors needed a reliable partner who could provide skilled workers capable of contributing immediately in mission-critical environments.

The Solution

Advastar supported these subcontractors by delivering skilled trades and field execution talent aligned to their specific scopes of work. We provided electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and instrumentation and controls professionals with experience in industrial and data center environments. We also supported heavy equipment and rigging needs by delivering NCCCO-certified crane operators, NCCER-certified riggers, and lift directors. In addition, we helped identify foremen and field leaders who could manage crews, maintain productivity, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards across the jobsite.

The Outcome

With a more reliable and experienced workforce in place, the subcontractors were able to maintain production, reduce delays related to labor shortages, and keep projects aligned with overall construction schedules. Work was completed safely and efficiently, and the subcontractors were able to meet the expectations of EPC partners and project owners. Advastar continued to support ongoing workforce needs as projects progressed and expanded into additional phases.
